10th Annual Assyrian Food & Cultural Festival : Bet-Nahrain Assyrian Cultural Center presents The 10th Assyrian Food & Cultural Festival Sept 8-9. A two days activities that invites all Assyrians and non-Assyrians to attend and enjoy good food, music, cultural and art. The festival starts 11:AM until 7:00PM.

Guest Artist: Sherene
Melania (Assyrian Ballerina)
Sherene Melania studied with the San Francisco Ballet School and performed
with the San Francisco Ballet in productions of the Nutcracker as early
as age eight. Mr. Mountian was Sherene's character instructor at SF Ballet
School and became her private coach. Under his tutelage, she won numerous
state competitions and was a national finalist with the American Showstoppers.
At age 13, Sherene continued her classical training at the Kirov Academy
of Ballet in Washington, D.C., and received the distinction to perform principal
youth roles on the Kirov Ballet’s American tours. Following graduation
from high school, Sherene accepted the invitation of the Minister of Culture
of the Russian Federation to study Ballet at the Saint Petersburg State
Conservatory, the only American with this honor.
Sherene has recently returned to SF after completing a two-year ballet
apprenticeship, studying under the Kirov's Ballet Mistress Gabriella Komleva,
while concurrently enrolled at the Saint Petersburg State Conservatory.
She majored in Ballet Direction and Choreography, and received a certificate
from the Conservatory. While in Russia, Sherene performed with artists of
the Kirov Ballet. She has been a guest with the Jeune Ballet in France.
Ms. Melania continues her education as a senior at the University of San
Francisco and majoring in performing arts and social justice while performing
as a freelance guest artist and member of the University of San Francisco
Dance Ensemble.
Sherene is the grand-daughter of Bet Nahrain charter members, Melania George
and the late Abram L. George.
