Brother in Assyrianism, Nisan:
I understood the point that these cartoons be translated into Assyrian language - period. However, one must understand that even if the cartoon was to be done with our idioms, the subject matter is baggage that comes along with the cartoon. In my conversations with several producers of cartoons (and from what my own instinct told me), I have been told that these cartoons' messages are tailored to change and/or indoctrinate people.
As I said in my reply to Ms. Nahrain, it is absolutely imperative that we create our own cartoons, with our own stories, morals, and language. The storyline and morals are as important as the language being spoken in them. So in other words...this cartoon may be done in Assyrian (and let's say the translators are smart enough to include our idioms and everything), the plots of these cartoons contribute greatly to the minds of the developing children.
There was a case study done on a 1980s cartoon...one that even I used to occasionally watch - GI Joe. The cartoon was developed partly in response to anti-war and anti-military sentiments that came up during the late 60s, up to the mid-70s, and continued even after the Vietnam War was officially over. The idea was to indoctrinate. You wouldn't have heard that word thrown around by anyone for a period of time, but that's what it was and today it is still known in Political Science terms as that. The West had already drawn up a plan for the rest of the world for a good few decades. They knew they would need a new generation of soldiers (see Berginsky's plans and writings) and cartoons such as that one did the trick very well...as cartoons similar to it continue to do today.
Forget the idioms...if one puts these American cartoons into Assyrian language, you'll see the next generation of our people go down the drain. I'm not opposed to hearing different perspectives or anything, but the first few years of an Assyrian child are crucial to his/her future. We need cartoons that will instill within them a strong feeling of Assyrian nationalism.
