The Assyrian New Year festival at Bet-Nahrain LIVE on AssyriaSat Assyrian New Year starts at the exact moment of the vernal equinox, commencing the start of the spring. It is considered as the start of the New Year among Assyrians, Persians, Afghani, Kurds and others. Assyrian New Year (Kha B Nisannu) has been celebrated for at least 7,000 years in Assyria and is deeply rooted in the rituals and traditions.
The vernal equinox (or spring equinox) marks the beginning of astronomical spring.
It occurs during the month of March in the Northern Hemisphere, and during September in the Southern Hemisphere. In Assyrian culture the vernal equinox marks the start of the New Year. At the same moment that the vernal equinox occurs in one hemisphere, it is the time of the autumnal equinox in the other hemisphere.Assyria (Assur): Assur, also spelled Ashur, from Assyrian Aššur, was the capital of ancient Assyria.
