‘DOMINION WITHOUT DOMAIN!’
By Ivan Kakovitch

FORUM ADMINISTRATION: Please do not ostrichize [bury head in sand, in face of danger] the name of a geographical areas and its people.

(This piece is in response to the article by Mr. Hariri, of the ‘Analyst’ publication, in which he refers to Assyrians as ‘Assyrians of #####’).

Assyrians of Mesopotamia:

As long as a country is under the occupation of foreign troops, it loses its status as such -- the status of being a country -- thus it becomes known as an area. Reverting back to its origins, it thus takes the name of Mesopotamia. In view of the fact that there is no Iraq, there, of course cannot be ##### either.

##### should and shall be one day, and I personally do not entertain the slightest of reservations about the fruition of its existence.

How can an Assyrian chastise Kurds for their desire to have a country of their own, whereas our aspirations lay hand in hand with theirs?

Hence, since there is no Iraq, no #####, there cannot be Assyrians of ##### either.

Despite the fact that Assyrians are in the minority, it still does not mean that an outright majority ought to sideline its millennia-old indigenous stance, by rendering it as an entity of #####, whenever that day arrives. The antecedent of former Yugoslavia Province of Kosovo status is a stern reminder of that self-indulgent theory of national absorption.

In the neighborhood of some six-hundred-thousand ethnic Albanians lived in a country of some 30 million. Today, the Albanian residents, along with a smaller minority of Serbians of Kosovo maintain their autonomous status within Serbia-Montenegro Republic. Their ratio of 600,000 versus a Serbian-Montenegro population of 13 million, is far smaller than that of the Assyrians in proportion to the Kurds.

Assyrians can live side by side with the Kurds, Turkomen, Yezidis, Armenians and Shekaqs in #####, and Kurds can live with Assyrians, Turkomen, Yezidis, Armenians and Shekaqs in Assyria.

Quoting Mr. Hariri"...We also like the word 'Soorayeh' as a unifiying term...." the only response would be that it does not matter what we like and what we do not like. What matters is that what is legal, and what is not legal.

Any nomenclature, except Assyria is impractical, illegal, obtrusive and insulting. It is Assyria that is in possession of millennia-old recorded history, on its side. It is Assyria that is respect and known throughout the world. Assyria, referred to by any other name, is tantamount to a deliberate destruction of Assyria, or merely ignorance.

Assyria must, and shall be no other than Assyria.
