In Response To: Assyrians Despicable Love for America (Ray)

To Fellow Assyrian Raymond Kheyo,

"Dear Reader,

I'm so sick of reading people's posts about how they are fighting the fight for Assyrianism and simultaneously claiming that America and democracy are the best things to ever happen to man."

--I agree with you there.

"Why do you consider Assyrians so great if not for the TRUE way they lived? Democracy didn't arise until the Greeks sometime after the Assyrian Empire peak. So why not glorify your true government...Monarchy."

--Well...while I somewhat do agree with you there, I must make a very important clarification. Many (not all though) Assyrian kings were actually elected to their positions. Some notable examples include Shamshi Adad I (1813-1781 B.C. - 39th on the list of Assyrian Kings, which was a tablet of recorded Assyrians kings allegedly discovered by archaeologist A. Poebel in 1942) and Ashur Aballit I (1363-1328 B.C. - 73rd on the list of Assyrian Kings) to name a few. If you are interested in this subject, I suggest getting a hold of the following book:

--Democracy's Ancient Ancestors, Mari and Early Collective Governance by Daniel E. Fleming (NYU).

--It was released on January 26th, 2004, spans 390 pages, and costs roughly $75 US dollars. You should be able to find it at a library though.

--Democracy is not a creation of the Greeks. As you can see by those dates I gave you (and there are ones far older than those), they are far before Greeks even understood how to stop swinging from trees and how to walk. The peak of the Assyrian empire was the 700s B.C. and 600s B.C., and since Babylon was/is ethnically Assyrian, we can say the 500s B.C. as well. As you can see, that is far later in history than the dates I gave you for the aforementioned kings and as I stated, there are even earlier examples.

"You talk about the freedoms America gives us yet we are so restricted."

--True, true.

"You talk about the separation of church and state and you vote for persons like Bush who let religious beliefs heavily influence his decisions as President; although, you don't mind since it's your general religion he favors...Doesn't that sound familiar to all those born in Iraq? Didn't you think that you should just be left alone because you weren't bothering anybody. I'm a true Christian and believe that only God can ultimately judge us; and everyone, friend or foe, is my brother until they're judged because even if they don't see themselves as one, they are a child of God.

Truth Seeker,

Ray"

--The truth will come when we - the young people - topple this regime of senile old people and learn to return to the way of our ancestors and stop prostituting ourselves. That means to stop selling ourselves to the west, to its ways, to its devoid culture, etc. Our old "leaders" came to this country and were very quick to "melt" and to assimilate, to change, to conform. This rupyuta needs to stop.

"P.S. Don't be so naive enough to accuse me of wanting to replace democracy with monarchy. If that's what you thought my point was your seriuosly mistaken."

--They are both good systems and they are both bad systems. Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero had some decent debates on these subjects but the bottom line is that whatever system is in place, there will always be a person or people who will mess things up.
