Why we are supporting the Assyrian Church of the East in this time of need.

In my posts I have given many reasons for our support of this church. I will not reiterate them. However, I find it interesting that I see so many people, who previously had apathy toward this church, have become avid supporters of this church, not just by words, but by action as well. As I have mentioned, perhaps they have had an awakening as to the importance of this church to their Assyrian heritage and identity. Perhaps there are other reasons, which are common attributes in most humans.

PROTECTING THE WEAK AND INNOCENT FROM INJUSTICE:

Regarding the weak element, in my posts I have listed who the conspirators are. If you go over the list carefully, you will realize that our church is dealing with several formidable enemies. In compare with most churches, our church has few members and as result, it does not have a financial strength. Furthermore, it does not have any political influence. Compare our church with its enemies, you will realize that our church is just like a small fish in pond.

Regarding the innocent element, there is no evidence that our church throughout its 2000-year history, even in its zenith, has engaged in forced conversion of other religions (including other Christians), book burning, plots with Muslims against its Christian brothers, fraud, and etc. Its missionaries spread the words Christ with love and compassion throughout many countries. There is not a single evidence that shows they used violence against those whom they were attempting to convert, nor is there any evidence that they bribed them with money or gifts to convert.

Ricoldo Of Montecrorce, a Dominican friar, who traveled to Bet-Nahrain in the second half of 13th century noted about our clergies: “Their religious men, bishops, archbishops and patriarchs do not eat meat at all, nor condiment containing meat, not even in case of mortal illness. In their habits and dresses, religious men like bishops and chiefs show great poverty, austerity, honesty and humility.”

Regarding the injustice, a reasonable person, who is well-informed as to what is occurring to this church, would reach one conclusion: This injustice must stop.
