Dear De-Baathification Committee,
We commend you for your determination and mission to sweep Iraq of remnants of the Baath regime. Your holy mission will create a new and democratic Iraq, at last.

As Ashureen (Assyrians), we plead to you to honour the Al-Rafedain slate lead by Mr. Younadam Yousif Kanna, the only Assyrian slate that won a seat in the recent elections. Allowing Mr. Kanna to the parliament will be the highest commemoration of our martyrs’ memory. For the past two years, Mr. Kanna has worked diligently for the Assyrian people in Iraq and their national and political rights in their homeland.

There will be no democracy in Iraq and legitimacy to its government if this indigenous people are once again denied a national seat like their country men, the Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmen. Mr Kanna has overwhelming support among the community inside and outside Iraq as does his party, the Assyrian Democratic Movement and we ask that his name not be tarnished with these unfounded allegations.

Ashureen people in Iraq and Diaspora would like to see Mr Yonadam Kanna as their representative in the Iraqi parliament. During the past two years, Mr Kanna was the only person who has spoken on behalf of the Ashureen people in the government.

We sincerely appreciate your efforts and ask for your rejection of all propaganda against our beloved Mr Kanna.
