Dear Concerned Assyrian:
I agree that Soro is an individual who deserves the respect and dignity any individual does. However, when one becomes a bishop, he cannot violate the oath of obedience to his Patriarch. Every bishop takes this oath at the time of their consecrecation. A doctor takes the Hippocratic Oath when they become licensed. Do we expect them to disregard it when they feel it inconvenient? Would you trust your child to the care of a doctor who decides to abandon this oath ? Of course not. Nobody would When Soro abandoned his oath to the Patriarch. We should give him the same dignity and respect as a doctor or any professional who violates the trust society places in them. For him to carry the name of Mar, is an afront to the many dedicated and loyal bishops of the past and present. Our society disbars rogue lawyers and unethical doctors. Our church, in order to survive, must act accordingly and remove bishops from their ranks who have violated the trust placed in them. This is Soro's offense in the eccelesiastical sense. As far as his temporal offenses are concerned, that is for the legal system to mete out just punishment. I do not pretend to have all the answers. To do so would be an act of arrogance. I only know that when a person is placed in a position of trust, and he/she violates that trust, then it is time for that person to leave. I hope Soro will one day recognize his offenses and seeks forgiveness from the people who he offended.
