Quote From THE CHURCH OF THE EAST AND THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
...Surma (Surma Khanoum or Lady Surma)was however the more intelligent of the two children, and by her influence over her brother she would also be an important figure. Browne(W.H. Browne an Anglican clergy who was actually an agent.)spent much time with Surma, and taught her, among other subjects,English. He and she began to converse in English and to eat their meals together alone. These arrangements became a subject of gossip, which sometime in late 1895 reached Urmia, and was transmitted home in at least one letter of Heazells which was seen by Blakiston.
Browne 50 and Surma 13 it is shocking and scandalous,He commented to Benson.About February 1896 the Archbishop wrote to Browne to ask what was behind the rumours. Now David Jenks had visited Kochanes early in 1895 to heal the head of Mar Shimun(basamtad Reesha) to deliver the mission's codolences at Ishai's death, and while he was detained there six weeks by snow,he received some confidences from Browne on the subject of Surma.Browne told him he feared he had unfitted Surma by her education for marriage to any Syrian native, especially one who might be caught up in the petty feuding within the patriarchal family. Jenks impetuously suggested that he himself should marry Surma, and Browne seemed sympathetic to the idea. Jenks now (2Feb.1896)submitted his plan to the Archbishop, according to which he and Surma would settle among the Syrians and become a permanent nucleus of the mission. It was a well-meaning but wild scheme, and Benson firmly refused to consider it.Apart from any other objections, he said,it would mean Surma becoming an Anglican.....

......This is not the place to recount the recent history of the Church of the East, evenful as it has been. It suffices to mention the fact that contact between the Anglican and Assyrian churches was re-established in 1970s.The Counsellors on foreign relations had charge of the residue of a charitable fund set up for the benefit of the Assyrians by officers of the Royal Air Force in the second World War.In 1976,after prolonged negotiations, this was disposed of for the building of a patriarchal center for the church of the east in Bagdad. Later the same year MarDinkha the bishop of Tehran made a study visit to Britian, and this visit led quickly to the holding of a synod of the Church of the East in St Paul's Priory,Alton,Hamphire, in october. The synod, consisting of seven bishops and two other delegate, met to elect a new Patriarch to succeed Mar Eshai Shimun who had been assassinated the previous year. MarDinkha was duly elected, and consecrated at St Barnabas church,Ealing, on 17 october. Two Anglican bishops attended the consecration.on 9 November Mardinkha was welcomed by the Archbishop of Canterbury at a session of the Church of England General Synod.

is these along with some other...Bawai Soro's attorneis are going to discuss and debate them in the court and ask his Holiness why he was not ordained as a Patriarch in Chicago by some Assyrian bishops, in An Assyrian Church, crowded by Assyrians....who knows, is it why the bishops are constantly making trips to Evilland sorry I mean England for a way out? who knows... All we could do is pray and pray to Ashur, may a door to our freedom opens by his mercy.
May Ashur Bless our Nation.
