The Non-Financial Side of Court Case Settlement
There have been some rumors, unverified reports and open discussions regarding the possibility that the ACOE would settle the case with his disgrace Soro. Keep in mind that we have not heard anything official from the ACOE authorities yet. Whether this is just another rumor or the subject of settlement has in fact been discussed by both parties, we must look beyond the financial impact of such decision on the ACOE members and supporters.
I would appreciate those of you who have “law knowledge” to correct me if I am wrong.
To a non-lawyer, average lay man settlement means an arrangement, adjustment, or other understanding reached between two parties. An agreement reducing or resolving differences; especially: an agreement between litigants that concludes the litigation.
Considering the history of this case, the unpleasant and down right rude and sometimes even illegal actions of Soro’s side (threats to His Holiness’ life and Ghasha Antwan’s case), settling the case in any way would mean that our side (ACOE side) has somehow agreed with other side’s claims and would like to compensate them somehow.
As a member of the ACOE, I would take any kind of settlement as if our church is agreeing, compensating, confirming, making a deal, paying off or reimbursing Soro for what he did. If the damages caused by Soro were only financial damages a financial settlement would have been received much better. But, we all know, have seen and heard enough to think of this case from a financial point of view only.
If the concern of the ACOE is that the cost of the court hearing would be too much to handle, then my question is haven’t we as members and supporters proved so far that we will stand behind the church no matter how much the cost or how high the risk? I know the church may not want to put more burden on the people than necessary, but I wish the church would consider that a lot of us members and supporters much rather pay the high price of the hearing that try to shut up Soro’s arrogant supporters and propagandist claiming we settled because we were somehow at fault.
Just my personal opinion on the issue of settlement.
